💡 CheatCode #163: The “One-Sentence Standard”
If you can’t say it simply, you’re not ready to act.
“The first duty of a leader is to define reality.”— Max DePree
Indecision thrives in complexity. The One-Sentence Standard forces clarity: define what you’re doing, why it matters, and what success looks like — in one sentence. If you can’t, you’re still negotiating with yourself.
This is why bomb disposal technicians are trained to verbalize the objective before touching a device. In an environment where complexity can kill, ambiguity is the enemy. The clearer the mission, the calmer the hands.
The same applies to snipers. Before a shot is ever taken, the objective, constraints, and abort conditions are explicit. There is no room for internal debate once execution begins. Clarity is what allows decisive action under pressure.
If your goal can’t survive one sentence, it won’t survive reality.
